Local Area

Warwick & the Southern Downs district

Warwick, famous as the ‘Rose & Rodeo City, can trace its history back to around 1850’s. Since then it has grown into a thriving regional centre of around 12000 inhabitants, located on the Condamine River, source of Australia’s longest river system.

Warwick’s many historical and heritage listed buildings, attest to a rich history built on timber and farming industries. A heritage walk (brochures from the Visitor Centre) will guide you to most of them. The Glengallan Homestead & Heritage Centre and the Southern Downs Steam railway, are fine examples of the past in the Southern Downs.

If the past is not your focus and leisure is, then Warwick offers a range of activities, events and opportunities throughout the year. They range from flower shows in spring and autumn, Rose & Rodeo festival in October, Jumpers & Jazz in July, Polocrosse at Easter to motor sport events on almost a weekly basis. Facilities for all sports in close proximity to each other, is also a highlight.

Warwick’s CBD, only 2 minutes from the Centre Point Mid-City Motor Inn, offers a range of dining opportunities for even the most discerning palate, as well as a large variety of shops.

A little further afield, 8 Tourist Drives have been designed to take visitors around the district through ever-changing scenery and some of the oldest towns and villages in Queensland. Highlights include the well-known Queen Mary Falls, Cunningham’s Gap and the Granite Belt’s wineries. Further information is available at our reception or from the visitor centre.

To top it off, Warwick offers several parks and reserves, most with playgrounds for the children and bike/walking tracks along the beautiful Condamine River!
